Tracee Chimo, Molly Ranson, Philip Ettinger and Michael Zegen will star in Joshua Elias Harmon’s Bad Jews at off-Broadway’s Black Box Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. Helmed by Daniel Aukin, the Roundabout Underground production begins previews October 5, with an official opening night on October 30. The world premiere comedy will play a limited engagement through December 30.
Bad Jews is the story of Daphna Feygenbaum (Chimo), a “Real Jew” with an Israeli boyfriend she met on Birthright. When Daphna’s cousin Liam (Zegen) brings home his shiksa girlfriend Melody (Ranson) and declares ownership of their grandfather’s Chai necklace, a vicious and hilarious brawl over family, faith and legacy ensues.
Chimo is currently starring in Harvey, and has appeared in Irena’s Vow on Broadway. Her off-Broadway credits include Guilty, Circle Mirror Transformation and Bachelorette. Her film and TV credits include The Five-Year Engagement, Louie and I Just Want My Pants Back. Ranson’s Broadway credits include Jerusalem and August: Osage County. She has appeared off-Broadway in Carrie and The Burnt Part Boys. Ettinger has appeared off-Broadway in Edgewise. His film and TV credits include Sleepwalk With Me, The Maid’s Room and a forthcoming appearance on Girls. Zegen’s off-Broadway credits include Oliver Parker! and punkplay. His TV credits include The Walking Dead, How to Make it in America and Boardwalk Empire.
The Bad Jews creative team includes set designer Lauren Helpern, lighting designer Mark Barton and costume designer Dane Laffrey.
